Welcome Parents to the Central Speech and Hearing Clinic

When your child is diagnosed as deaf or hard-of-hearing it may seem overwhelming. Many of us on the Executive of the CSHC Board are parents of a child with a hearing loss and we understand what you are going through, as we ourselves have gone through the same process.

Informed parental choice is necessary.

Our advice to you is that you carefully consider all communication options for your child. It takes time to come to terms with your child’s hearing loss. We would encourage you to get more than one opinion. Consult widely with professionals in the medical, deaf and hard-of-hearing community and with parents who have travelled these roads before you. Ask many questions and research the answers yourself. Follow your heart, dream big, and realize that your child can reach his/her full potential even with a profound hearing loss. Your child can attend his/her neighbourhood day care, nursery and/or school where they can excel in the regular classroom. You must take the first step, remembering that the earlier you place your child in a program, the better his/her performance will be.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Central Speech and Hearing Clinic we invite you, your child, and your family to meet with our professional staff or to call a parent. We can help you.
